CBSE Class X Spanish paper ‘out of syllabus’, ‘inaccurate’; retest sought
Several schools, teachers’ associations and parents have now written to the CBSE alleging out-of-syllabus questions and inaccuracies in the Spanish Term 1 paper for Class 10. A retest is being demanded by many.
More than 600 students in Delhi-NCR appeared for this Spanish exam on November 27. While CBSE officials did not respond to ET’s request for comment, it is gathered that they are seized of the issue.
There is, however, concern across schools and the student fraternity as the Term 1 scores will be weighted towards and impact the final board exam score for class 10 students.
At a school where over 60 students took the Spanish exam, a teacher said nearly a dozen of the total 42 questions were out of syllabus. “At least 10-12 questions in the paper were not based on the Class 10 pattern. They were also not at all in consonance with the sample question paper that the CBSE put out. There were also errors and incorrect options in many questions. The students are shocked and very disappointed as they usually score well in Spanish but with so many questions of a higher difficulty level, their scores are bound to suffer,” said the teacher.
“I have been teaching Spanish for over 10 years and I have never seen a question paper of this difficulty level for class 10. Spanish teachers have come together to also bring this to the attention of both the schools as well as the CBSE and the latter are learnt to have agreed to discuss the matter,” said another Spanish teacher at a Delhi school.
In a communication to the CBSE, the Spanish teacher fraternity has pointed to “improper” vetting and proofreading of the question paper.
