CBI offers Rs 50,000 cash prize for info on missing accused in BJP worker’s murder

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced a reward amount of Rs 50,000 each on five accused in the murder case of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Abhijit Sarkar, said Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials said on Friday.

The five accused, who have been named in a formal advertisement include Amit, Tumpa and Arup Das, Sanjay and Papiya Barik, are absconding. While investigating the murder case of BJP worker Abhijit Sarkar, the CBI sleuths identified the above mentioned accused.

However, CBI could not arrest any of the absconding accused in this case, following which the Calcutta High Court issued arrest warrants in the name of the accused on November 17.

“If any information about the five fugitives is given to the Central Intelligence Agency, the name of the informant will be kept secret and the cash reward will be given,” the CBI said in an official advertisement.

Sarkar was brutally killed in the post-poll violence in the Narkeldanga area in Kolkata after assembly poll results were announced on May 2.

Calcutta High Court on August 19, 2021, had ordered a CBI enquiry into the murder and rape allegations in connection with the post-poll violence in Bengal. The seven-member committee set up by the NHRC had recommended a CBI probe into alleged rape and murder cases.

Meanwhile, the agency has arrested seven accused during further investigation of a case related to the death of Manik Moitra during violence in West Bengal. The accused are the residents of Cooch Behar district. The arrested were produced today before the court at Cooch Behar.

The agency, on the other hand, in a separate case, has also issued notice to Trinamool Birbhum District President Anubrata Mondal on Friday to appear for questioning in post-poll violence murder probe today in connection with the ongoing investigation of post-poll violence case in Bengal.
