Catherine Zeta-Jones Serves Up Sultry Morticia Addams-Inspired Beauty on the Red Carpet
We’re currently immersed in Morticia fever following the release of Tim Burton’s The Addams Family spin-off series, Wednesday, on Netflix. Taking over the role once occupied by Anjelica Huston, Catherine Zeta-Jones plays the gothic goddess—all jet-black hair and vampy lipstick—and the actor, it seems, has taken some real-life beauty cues from her famous character.
At a red-carpet event to mark the release of Disney’s National Treasure: Edge of History, Zeta-Jones opted for a blend of deep berry and purple eyeshadow tones around her eyes to sultry effect. Paired with a fan of spidery eyelashes that were loaded up with mascara, it was the perfect way to frame her dark brown eyes. Adding to the drama, Zeta-Jones’s mane of deep brunette hair was styled with gentle waves through the mid-lengths and ends, and she also sported a glossy burnished-red lip, which felt like another nod to Morticia—although it was a shade infinitely more forgiving than jet black.
Dark eyes paired with dark lips is a look that’s notoriously difficult to pull off, but the juxtaposition of different textures—matte shadows (with a touch of metallic) and glosses, for example—are more forgiving, especially for those with more mature skin. At 53, Catherine Zeta-Jones is an excellent poster girl for chic gothic glam IRL—take notes.
