Canelo Alvarez v Jermall Charlo to kick off “three-fight deal” for Mexican and PBC | Boxing News

NOT only does it look increasingly likely Canelo Alvarez will fight Jermall Charlo next but the Mexican looks set to commit to a three-fight deal with Premier Boxing Champions.

The 32-year-old Mexican has been working with Eddie Hearn for six of his last seven fights with only Canelo’s bout against Caleb Plant on Showtime being the exception.

Hearn was unable to deliver the Dmitry Bivol rematch for Canelo but had hoped he would work with him for two fights in the first half of next year.

With Bivol and a catch-weight contest against cruiserweight Badou Jack off the table Charlo quickly emerged as the front-runner to face Canelo in September.

Using his Instagram stories Canelo posted “Done Deal” on Thursday followed by the PBC logo. Sports Illustrated report that Alvarez has committed to a “multi-fight deal”. ESPN, however, narrow it down to a three-fight deal in their story.

Charlo 32-0 (22), a middleweight belt holder, will move up eight pounds to challenge Canelo for his four at super-middleweight. The American, however, has not fought since June 19, 2021, when he beat Juan Montiel on points. Charlo also has wins over Sergiy Derevyanchnenko (in 2020) at middleweight as well as victories over Julian Williams and Austin Trout at super-welterweight where his brother Jermell reigns as the current number one at 154lbs.

Canelo’s last outing came against John Ryder which doubled up as a homecoming in Guadalajara for the Mexican icon in May. The Brit showed bulldog spirit, but Canelo was always too good and ran out the victor with a unanimous decision.

Should Canelo beat Charlo and in fact be tied to a three-fight deal then fans will hope he faces rival David Benavidez during his stint with Al Haymon and PBC.
