AFL identity Campbell Brown has revealed the unique way Chris Judd paid him back after he lied at the AFL tribunal to get the decorated midfielder off an eye-gouging charge.
The year was 2007 and then West Coast Eagles star Judd was a raging favourite to win the Brownlow Medal for the league’s best and fairest player.
Problem was, Judd was likely to be rubbed out of contention following an eye-gouging charge on Hawks defender Brown during a match that season.
Brown fronted the AFL tribunal to help plead Judd’s case – and despite clear evidence to the contrary, declared the contact to his face was minimal.
Incredibly, Judd beat the charge – but when Brown let slip in an interview with journalist Mike Sheahan a couple of weeks later that he wasn’t entirely truthful at the tribunal, chaos followed.

Brown was fined $15,000 for lying – of which $7500 was suspended – and sidelined by the furious AFL for two weeks.
Judd then received a five figure invoice from Brown, who chose to see the funny side of the matter.
While the champion midfielder didn’t cough up any cash, Brown wasn’t left high and dry.
‘He gave me a [very good] stock tip a few years ago,’ Brown said on the Ausmerican Aces podcast.
‘Chris has very much paid his way.’
For the record, Geelong great and three-time premiership winner Jimmy Bartel took home the Brownlow Medal in 2007.
After winning a flag with the Hawks in 2008, Brown later moved on to the Gold Coast Suns, but his career was cut short after the club sacked him.
It followed a fight in Los Angeles with teammate Steven May, who ended up with a broken jaw from the fracas during an end-of-season trip.
