Cameron Munster to be axed from Storm leadership group after video scandal

Cameron Munster’s off-season is set to go from bad to worse as the fallout to the video scandal that rocked the Storm continues.

Melbourne star Cameron Munster’s off-season nightmare looks set to continue, with the five-eighth reportedly on the outer at the Storm.

Munster appeared in a video along with Brandon Smith and Chris Lewis, which appeared to show the players in a room with white powder.

The footage emerged just days after the Storm’s narrow defeat to the Penrith Panthers in the preliminary final.

The trio have yet to be officially sanctioned by either the NRL or the Storm, but all are expected to receive heavy fines from the club on Tuesday.

For Munster, his punishment won’t be just a significant blow to the wallet. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Queensland five-eighth will be axed from the Storm’s leadership group because of the incident.

The current leadership group consists of Munster, Kenny and Jesse Bromwich, Felise Kaufusi and Christian Welch. But it is set to become one member lighter.

Munster admitted earlier in the season he would be open to switching clubs to a second Brisbane team that will come in as part of the NRL’s expansion.

The 27-year-old hails from Rockhampton and refused to shut the door on moving back to Queensland should a new team be interested in his services.

“If another Brisbane team comes in, I won’t say no to going back home,” Munster told The Courier Mail in August.

“I do see myself moving to Queensland after football and if a second Brisbane team comes in, I could go back earlier than expected.

“I wouldn’t say no to that (joining a second Brisbane team) … for sure.”

The expansion team will likely join the NRL in 2023.

Munster’s contract with the Storm expires at the end of 2023, and he could be one of the first pieces of the puzzle for the league’s 17th club.
