Calcutta HC dismisses Bengal education minister’s daughter’s job
Adhikari’s daughter Ankita Adhikari has also been directed by the SIngle Bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay to return 41 months salary and not to enter school premises in future.
The single bench of Justice Gangopadhyay also directed MoS Paresh Chandra Adhikari’s daughter Ankita to deposit the salary paid to her since November 2018 in two installments with the registrar general of the high court. She has to pay the first instalment by June 7 and the second by July 7.
It ordered that Ankita Adhikari should not be treated as a teacher and she and her family members have been barred from entering the school premises till further orders.
The high court was hearing a petition filed by a candidate who claimed that she was deprived of the position despite having secured higher marks than Adhikari’s daughter in the recruitment examination. The petitioner had claimed that she had secured 77 marks and Ankita Adhikari only 61.
“There are thousands of Babita Sarkar who have not received jobs due to corruption in the system. There are innumerable illegal appointments,” Firdous Shamim, Babita Sarkar’s advocate said. Sarkar had ranked number 1 in the panel but she did not get an interview call. Instead, Ankita Adhikari got the job in 2018.
The court ordered that Adhikari’s post will remain vacant and likely to be earmarked for the petitioner.
The central agency had on Thursday filed an FIR against Paresh Chandra Adhikari after he failed to meet the deadline set by the high court for appearance before its sleuths in connection with the case.
Adhikari, along with his daughter, was booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating and dishonesty) and 120B (criminal conspiracy), besides sections under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The court also said that if Paresh Chandra Adhikari was found missing on the flight, it would be treated as a hoax created by him to escape the court and the CBI and the matter would be dealt with accordingly. However, he reached the CBI office last evening and was grilled till night.
The HC earlier ordered the MoS to appear before the CBI on May 17. He skipped appearance before CBI and could not be found, following boarding a train from Coochbehar.
