Bryce Young injury update: Alabama QB’s gameday status vs Tennessee
Alabama quarterback Bryce Young missed last week’s game but the Crimson Tide have an update on his injury status before facing Tennessee.
After Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young suffered a shoulder injury against Arkansas, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner was ruled out for last week’s matchup against Texas A&M. While that put Jalen Milroe into action in what turned out to be a wildly tight contest, the bigger question was what was next for young with a trip to Neyland Stadium to face Tennessee waiting.
Throughout the week, it seemed as if the belief around the Crimson Tide program was that Young was trending in an optimistic manner.
But on Saturday morning, we got a gameday update that will be music to the ears of Alabama fans and could very well scare the orange-clad fans in Knoxville.
Bryce Young injury update: Alabama optimistic QB will play vs Tennessee
ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel appeared on College GameDay and reported that the plan was for Young to start. He noted that the team still plans to test him in pregame warmups but they are optimistic that the star signal-caller will be able to make the start and play over Milroe (h/t On3).
Milroe performed quite well in relief against Arkansas but looked much less effective in the 24-20 win over Texas A&M. He not only turned the ball over but the deep passing game for the Crimson Tide was all but nonexistent. That’s something that they will need to turn around with Young back in the fold.
It’s also particularly important in the matchup against Tennessee, the No. 6-ranked team in the country entering Saturday and one of the most potent offenses in college football. With Bama’s defense not being as dominant as it has been in years past, they will need Young to display every bit of his Heisman form to keep pace.
