Bryan Cranston is retiring? ‘Breaking Bad’ actor reveals career plans
“Hey everyone, I wanted to address some news that may have caused confusion, even for me. I am not retiring,” he shared alongside charming pictures of himself and his wife, Robin Dearden, at the Cannes Film Festival,” the “Breaking Bad” actor posted on Instagram.
“Here’s what I am planning to do: when I reach my 70th birthday in 2026, I will hit the pause button for a year. Wow, 70! I can’t believe it,” he continued. “I’m not entirely sure what ‘pausing’ means at this point, but I believe it will bring several benefits.”
Cranston explained that taking a break from acting will allow him to spend more quality time with his wife of 34 years and provide him with a chance to have a “sort of ‘reset'” in his career.
“I feel like I’m running out of fresh ideas in how to portray the characters I’m being offered. So, taking a step back to explore a more expansive life experience will help me rejuvenate my soul and approach any future roles in a more authentic way,” he expressed.
“I will disconnect from social media, step off the relentless business treadmill, and immerse myself in the timeless novels I’ve always promised myself to read but haven’t gotten around to,” he added.
Cranston’s statements follow his recent interview with GQ, where he outlined his three-year plan, which includes closing his production company, Moonshot Entertainment, and selling his stake in the mezcal company Dos Hombres, which he co-owns with his former “Breaking Bad” co-star Aaron Paul.
He also acknowledged the need to give his wife a break. “For the past 24 years, Robin has been by my side, adapting her life to support mine as a celebrity. She’s been the constant companion, the celebrity spouse. She’s had to pivot and adjust her life based on mine,” he revealed. “She has gained so much from it, but it’s been imbalanced. I want to restore that balance. She deserves it.”
Once he reaches 70, Cranston intends to settle in a quaint village where he can dedicate time to learning a new language, cooking, and gardening.
“I want to immerse myself in that experience. Work won’t be on my mind. I won’t be taking phone calls,” he emphasized.
