Browns QB Baker Mayfield day-to-day with knee injury
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield had a day to forget in Sunday’s 45-7 blowout loss at the New England Patriots. The L dropped the Browns to 5-5 on the season and has some wondering if the franchise needs to look for a new starting signal-caller this coming offseason. Mayfield completed 11-of-21 passes for 73 yards with a touchdown and an awful interception, and he also picked up a knee injury in the second half of the defeat.
Per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski offered an update on his QB1 during his Monday press conference.
“Baker is day-to-day with his knee, but feeling good about where he is this morning,” Stefanski explained.
He added Mayfield has no ligament damage, which suggests the 26-year-old should not miss any time.
Backup Case Keenum started for the Browns in the home win over the Denver Broncos on Oct. 21 and filled in for the banged-up Mayfield at New England. Mayfield was already dealing with a torn labrum, a fractured bone at the top of the humerus of his non-throwing shoulder and a foot issue before this latest setback, so Stefanski may look to Keenum to handle Cleveland’s offense against the winless Detroit Lions Sunday so Mayfield can get right for a pivotal matchup at the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 28.
