Britney Spears’s Memoir, ‘The Woman in Me,’ Has a Release Date
Britney Spears has released the official title, release date, and cover for her forthcoming memoir. Called The Woman in Me—a nod to the lyrics in her 2001 song “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman”—the book will be released this fall, on October 24, from Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. (It was reported last year that Spears’s book deal was worth as much as $15 million.)
The memoir—“a story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope”—is expected to document Spears’s life in the public eye, following her meteoric rise to pop superstardom and the challenges that came along with it. Notably the book will likely address the 13 years that Spears spent under a court-ordered conservatorship orchestrated by her father, Jamie, during which the singer claims she was stripped of basic human rights, had no access to her own money, and was forced to take powerful drugs like lithium. (The conservatorship ended in November 2021, following the fan-led #FreeBritney movement.)

According to a release, the memoir “illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms.” Jennifer Bergstrom, the senior vice president and publisher of Gallery Books, also told People that “Britney’s compelling testimony in open court shook the world, changed laws, and showed her inspiring strength and bravery. I have no doubt her memoir will have a similar impact—and will be the publishing event of the year. We couldn’t be more proud to help her share her story at last.”
The official cover features a black-and-white image of Spears wearing a pair of silver jeans. The memoir is available for preorder now.
