British Olympic medallist Goldie Sayers faces anxious wait after javelin posted to New Zealander Tori Peeters goes astray before Sunday’s event at the Commonwealth Games
- Peeters was going to use the javelin with which Sayers set a national record
- The javelin was posted to Peeter’s Cardiff training base last Wednesday
- However, it has gone to the wrong depot and Parcel Force are looking into it
A New Zealand javelin thrower at the Commonwealth Games is nervously waiting on the post after a spear sent to her by the British Olympic medallist Goldie Sayers has taken off in the wrong direction.
The retired Team GB star was attempting to send the javelin with which she broke the national record to an athlete she mentors, Tori Peeters, who competes at the Games in Birmingham on the Sunday.
Despite attempting to post the javelin to Peeter’s Cardiff training base via Parcel Force last Wednesday, it has gone to the wrong depot and the clock is ticking.

Sayers, who won bronze at Beijing 2008, told Sportsmail: ‘It’s got a lot of sentimental value and I was gifting it to her – Tori works with a number of people who are dear to me it’s just one of those pay it forward things.
‘She would be able to compete without it but I hope they get it to her in time for Sunday.’
A Parcelforce Worldwide spokesperson said: ‘We have been in touch with our customer to explain that this item had been addressed to the wrong postcode, and it is being delivered to the correct address today. We are pleased to have been able to resolve this matter swiftly.’
