Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe rules himself OUT of buying Liverpool OR Man United

Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe rules himself OUT of buying Liverpool OR Man United because of a lack of ‘value’ in the Premier League compared to France, where he runs Ligue 1 club Nice

  • Liverpool were put up for sale on Monday by Fenway Sports Group
  • There has also been speculation that Manchester United could be put up for sale
  • Sir Jim Ratcliffe has shown interest in buying a Premier League club in the past
  • He now wants to focus on improving Ligue 1 side Nice rather than buying a Premier League club

Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe has announced that he is not interested in trying to buy Liverpool or Manchester United, and has instead set his sights on improving the fortunes of Ligue 1 outfit Nice as there is ‘better value’ in France than the Premier League.

Liverpool were put up for sale by Fenway Sports Group (FSG) on Monday, while there has also been speculation that the Glazer family could be willing to sell their stake in United amid growing unrest among supporters.

However, Ratcliffe, who failed in a late bid to try to buy Chelsea earlier this year, has ruled himself out of the running to acquire Liverpool or United.

‘Our position has developed since the summer and we are now focusing our efforts in Nice and raising our ambitions for the club to make them into a top tier club in France to compete with PSG,’ a spokesman for Ratcliffe told The Telegraph.

‘This would represent much better value for our investment than buying one of the top tier Premier League clubs.’

Ratcliffe, a self-proclaimed United fan, expressed an interest in buying the Red Devils back in August, but has now performed a somewhat surprising U-turn.

Trying to become a major stakeholder at Liverpool may have been a shock to some, given the rivalry that exists between them and United, but Ratcliffe has now said this will not be happening either.

Ratcliffe has insisted that he now wants to make Nice a force to be reckoned with in France, as he tries to end PSG’s domestic dominance.

Ratcliffe’s Ineos company bought Nice for £91m in 2019, and the club finished fifth last term to secure European football.

They still ended the campaign 20 points adrift of PSG, though, and they are already 19 points behind the French giants this time around after an indifferent start to the season.
