Brie Larson Decked Herself in Chanel For the Cannes Red Carpets
Walking the red carpet for premieres at Cannes is one of the festival’s most important aspects—so Larson hasn’t skimped on the fashion. She kicked things off at the opening festival wearing a look from Chanel’s resort 2023 collection; It featured a tulle tunic embroidered with gold and silver sequins and rhinestones, worn over a golden-beige cotton-voile dress. “The golden dress was perfect for that moment, as it was a reflection of everything I was feeling,” says Larson. “Elegant, playful, and strong, but also still serious and even a bit vulnerable.” She accentuated the look with Chanel High Jewelry pieces, including 18-karat gold and diamond earrings.
Larson has also leaned into Old Hollywood aesthetics with quieter, all-black Chanel outfits. For a Chopard dinner last week, Larson sported a plunging black georgette-crop gown from Chabel’s resort 2023 collection; For Kering’s Women in Motion dinner this week, the star wore a silk muslin dress with a black silk organza cape from spring. Just last night, for Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City premiere, Larson gravitated towards a flared Chanel Couture dress embroidered with a silver and black rabbit motif, complete with white silk tulle flounces and silver feathers. “It had a very ’20s feel to it, and a playfulness I felt suited a Wes Anderson film premiere,” says Larson. “Also if you look closely, the black and white beaded panel is all rabbits interconnected; I loved that special detail.” She again accessorized with Chanel High Jewelry, including the shows topping 18-karat white gold and diamond Camélia necklace.
As she’s done more and more red carpets, Larson says she’s begun to see clothing as another form of storytelling. “Over the years I’ve had the chance to work with some incredible people who have helped shift my perspective of fashion,” says Larson. “It’s more than just wearing a pretty dress. If you look back at some of my press tours, you can see where we deliberately and sometimes subtly nod to the film we are promoting. Finding the small details, and using them to help tell the story, is something I have come to enjoy—it makes planning and finding the looks even more fun.” Considering the actor is set to star in both Lessons in Chemistry and The Marvels this year, she has plenty of fashion research to start on.
