Brie and Camembert cheese products of two dozen brands recalled due to a listeria outbreak
Infections associated with the cheeses have been documented in Texas, California, Georgia, Michigan, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Six people fell ill, with five of them being hospitalized. The total number of ill is likely greater, as some are not being tested for the sickness.
What cheeses are recalled?
The recalled brie and camembert cheeses were produced by Old Europe Cheese of Benton Harbor and were distributed under numerous labels throughout the US and Mexico. Best-by dates vary from September 28, 2022, through December 14, 2022.
If you purchased brie or camembert cheese, check the FDA notification to know if the name and UPC number match a recalled product.
The FDA advised anybody who purchased the recalled cheese to throw it away without eating it and to clean any surfaces or containers it may have come into contact with. Listeria may live in the refrigerator and infect other goods.
