Bridgerton 2 trailer is packed with romantic tension, drama and a haldi ceremony, fans unpack it all on Twitter

Netflix has released the first trailer for the highly-anticipated second season of their hit period romance, Bridgerton. The new season will follow Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), as he announces (or rather his mother does) his intent to finally settle down and find himself a bride. Lucky for him, Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran) is making her debut, but so is her sister, Kate (Simone Ashley). (Also read: Bridgerton 2: Netflix show introduces Kate Sharma in first clip)

Penelope Featherington is back as Lady Whistledown, announcing the beginning of a new season. After last year’s failed romance, Anthony believes he must find himself a wife that suits his mind, not his heart. On the other side, Edwina is looking for a ‘charming’ groom for herself and Kate wants only the best for her. In an attempt to judge Anthony’s character, she seems to fall for each other instead. However, not without some initial friction, as is staple in all the best period romances.

More clips show the return of Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) as he tries to help her brother make the right choice. Penelope is still unable to look Luke in the eye. And she has another threat looming large–Queen Charlotte has thrown Lady Whistledown out of her good books and wants her unmasked. 

Fans were definitely not calm as the trailer launched online. Many took to social media to share their best moments from the trailer. One noticed how Kate appears to be celebrating Edwina’s haldi ceremony. Another said their heart ‘stopped’ at the scene where Kate and Anthony’s hands almost touch in a scene full of sexual tension. Another even joked that they got the most transparent shirt for Anthony for maximum effect upon falling into the lake. Check out more reactions here:

The series also stars Adjoa Andoh, Lorraine Ashbourne, Harriet Cains, Bessie Carter, Shelley Conn, Nicola Coughlan, Phoebe Dynevor, Ruth Gemmell, Florence Hunt, Martins Imhangbe, Claudia Jessie, Calam Lynch, Luke Newton, Golda Rosheuvel, Luke Thompson, Will Tilston, Polly Walker and Rupert Young.

Shonda Rhimes serves as executive producer for the series under her Shondaland banner, alongside Betsy Beers, Tom Verica and Chris Van Dusen. Van Dusen also serves as creator and showrunner.

Bridgerton will be out on March 25.
