Bridal host’s act leaves mum mortified

Welcome to You Got This, news.com.au’s weekly slice of fitness inspiration featuring tips and advice from real women who’ve experienced it all.

Jayne Brancatisano was at a friend’s bridal shower when she was called up to take part in an activity.

The Melbourne mum had given birth to her second child one year earlier in 2018 and was feeling quite confident having already lost 8kg.

But as soon as she stood beside the bridal host, Ms Brancatisano said she was left devastated and embarrassed by what happened next.

“The girl hosting the bridal shower said ‘it appears all the pregnant woman are doing really well in the challenges’ and asked me ‘do you know what you’re having?’” Jayne told news.com.au

“The bride said ‘she actually had her baby a year ago’.”

Jayne, 33, said she was left mortified by what had happened — as was the host who made the remark.

“It was embarrassing because 40 women heard this conversation.”

The mother-of-two, who works as a real estate agent in Melbourne, said while the woman’s words were “rude”, it ended up motivating her, adding she still needed to tweak her unhealthy diet.

“I never ate breakfast, ate pies or chips or something deep fried for lunch and dinner was much the same,” she explained.

“Then at night I would get into the snacks — chocolate, lollies, biscuits, cakes the list goes on.”

Jayne said her weight got so “out of control” at one point, she refused to let anyone post images of her online.

“I felt terrible and very uncomfortable in my own skin.”

She explained that a photo from a christening also pushed her to lose weight.

“I had nothing to wear and saw a photo of myself after and thought ‘how terrible that I let myself get to this point yet again’.”

Jayne said she has struggled with fluctuating weight most of her life but it wasn’t until she came across a post on Chris Hemsworth’s Centr app in February 2020, that her life completely changed.

“I took up the 7-day free trial offer and just loved there was so many food ideas,” she said.

“I think that’s half the battle and if you can work out the food you love, but in a more controlled way, the exercise then aids on top of that.”

Jayne said by the time Melbourne’s second lockdown came into effect, she was working out six days a week and one rest day.

“This helped me not only mentally (surviving a hard lockdown) but also built healthy habits to form a new routine.”

After going on to lose an impressive 25kg, the mother-of-two said she is now focusing on building muscle with a variety of strength, conditioning and resistance workouts.

“Weightlifting has made me feel so incredibly strong, both physically and mentally which has helped me survive nother lockdown in Melbourne.”

She’s also currently studying for her Certificate 3 and 4 in Fitness.

“I love my body now, I love how it’s changed and every day it’s stronger and fitter,” Jayne said, adding “(In the end), the only persons opinion you should value is your own.

“Patience and consistency are key. Focus on those and you can achieve anything”.
