Brian Kelly gets first LSU signature win toppling Ole Miss: College football media reacts

The LSU Tiger and head coach Brian Kelly defeated the No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels to get their signature win.

Brian Kelly arrived from Notre Dame to lead the LSU football program after the university moved on from Ed Orgeron. Kelly’s tenure got off to a rough start, falling to the Florida State Seminoles in the season-opener. However, they have won five of their next six games after that, with their lone loss coming to the then No. 8-ranked Tennessee Volunteers.

Now, Kelly has his signature win at LSU.

On Saturday, the Tigers hosted the No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels, and defeated them by the score of 45-20. To make this win even more impressive, LSU got this victory after trailing 17-3 at the very beginning of the second quarter.

Again, the Tigers trailed by two touchdowns three seconds into the second quarter. Then, the offense came to life, due in part to the play of quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Midway through the second quarter, Daniels tied the game at 17-17 following a touchdown pass to Jaray Jenkins and a touchdown run of his own.

Ole Miss would take their final lead of the game on a 48-yard field goal by Jonathan Cruz. From there, Daniels took over.

In the third quarter Daniels completed a one-yard touchdown pass to Mason Taylor to take a 24-20 lead. Then, in the fourth, Daniels ran for 11 and 17-yard touchdowns to bring their lead all the way up to 38-20. To further pour salt into the wound, Josh Williams scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown to bring LSU’s lead to 45-20.

Daniels finished the game completing 21 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns on 28 attempts, while running for an absurd 121 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries.

The Tigers got a huge win in Week 8 over the Rebels. Following their bye next week, LSU has a chance to end Alabama’s College Football Playoff hopes.
