Braves demote Huascar Ynoa with injury, announce corresponding move
The Atlanta Braves had to drop pitcher Huascar Ynoa from their NLCS roster because of injury, replacing him with Dylan Lee for the rest of the postseason.
The shoulder tightness that scratched Braves pitcher Huascar Ynoa from starting Game 4 of the NLCS won’t just keep him out for one game. It’s ended his season.
Atlanta removed Ynoa from their NLCS roster on Wednesday because of the injury, making him unavailable for a potential World Series appearance, if the team makes it that far.
As for Wednesday’s start against the Dodgers, the job is now in the hands of Jesse Chavez.
Huascar Ynoa injury update: Braves replace pitcher with Dylan Lee
Ynoa’s spot on the roster is being filled by Dylan Lee, a lefty who has appeared in two innings for the Braves this season, giving up three hits and two earned runs.
Atlanta signed Lee as a free agent in April after he spent five years in the minors with the Marlins. He made his MLB and Braves debut against the Mets on Oct. 1, pitching again the next day. He hasn’t been used since.
Manager Brian Snitker indicated Game 4 would be a bullpen game. It will be fascinating to see if Lee ends up making an appearance. He brings a different element as a left-handed pitcher, but he’s a rookie with hardly any regular-season experience, let alone postseason chops.
Ynoa struggled in the NLDS against the Brewers, but he was still a known quantity. He finished the season 4-6 in 17 starts with a 4.05 ERA.
