Brandon Miller picks up ANOTHER award as Alabama prepare to face San Diego State in March Madness

Brandon Miller wins ANOTHER award as Alabama prepares to face San Diego State in March Madness Sweet 16… as Crimson Tide star is named National Freshman Player of the Year

While Alabama have unfinished business to take care of in the NCAA Tournament, Brandon Miller has earned another individual accolade.

The Crimson Tide star was voted as the National Freshman Player of the Year by the US Basketball Writers Association, becoming the first Alabama player to take home the award since its inception in 1989.

As the standout player on one of the country’s standout teams, Miller led the SEC in scoring with 19.6 points per game (including the conference tournament) and chipped in 8.3 rebounds as well.

That scoring mark – achieved while shooting an efficient 40.1 percent from deep – was the best of any freshman in the country.

Miller’s Freshman of the Year award comes after he picked up a litany of other honors, including being named an AP first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC.

The 6-foot-9 forward was also named the SEC Player of the Year and a Lute Olson National Player of the Year finalist, among other recognitions.

Despite his impressive season, Miller’s NCAA Tournament got off to a silent start as he was held scoreless in Alabama’s 96-75 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

He returned to form in the following game, however, pouring in 19 points against Maryland as Alabama advanced to the Sweet 16.

Miller has also drawn unfortunate attention off the court, as his name surfaced last month in court testimony involving the capital murder case of former Alabama player Darius Miles and another man, who are charged in the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Jamea Harris on Jan. 15.

A police officer testified that Miles texted Miller asking him to bring Miles’ gun in the early morning hours of the shooting.

Miller, however, has not been charged with a crime as he continues to star for Alabama.

The Tide will face San Diego State for a spot in the Elite Eight at 6:30ET Friday.
