Bradley Beal signs supermax with Wizards: Will he finish out deal in Washington?
The Wizards locked in Bradley Beal to a giant new supermax deal with $251 million over five years. Will he see the end of that contract in Washington?
Not a season goes by without Bradley Beal being floated as a potential trade option. And not an offseason goes by without him staying put with the Wizards.
His free agency in 2022 lasted the blink of an eye as he signed what was the largest contract in NBA history for $251 million over five years. Nikola Jokic outdid him with $264 million shortly after, but the fact remains that Beal just got paid a whole lot of money to stay with a team that doesn’t seem to have much in the way of higher aspirations.
Very few people out there would turn down a quarter of a million dollars. So it’s no surprise Beal took the deal. The question is whether he’ll still be in Washington when it ends.
Will Bradley Beal finish out his supermax deal with the Wizards?
You never know with athletes. They can and will change their minds. One year, Washington may be enough for Beal. The next, he may see his hopes of ever winning a championship slipping away and seek that trophy elsewhere.
Still, Beal certainly sounds like someone who is content where he is.
“[Legacy] is huge man because I’ve been here a long time. This city has embraced me from day one and I feel like I embraced this city right back. This is my second home,” Beal told NBC Sports earlier this year before the supermax contract came to fruition.
Beal has played for Washington since 2012 when he was the No. 3 pick in the NBA Draft. He signed a multi-year deal in 2016. He’s had just two winning seasons in the six seasons since. So he knows what he’s getting into this time.
