International designers including New York-based Peter Do and Berlin’s Ottolinger are in the running for this year’s Andam Fashion Awards, which seek to attract global talent to the French capital.

Other nominees for the Andam Grand Prize of €300,000 are Botter (based in Paris), Robert Wun (London), Cool TM (Paris), Heliot Emil (Copenhagen) and Lukhanyo Mdingi (Cape Town), according to a statement today. A special prize of €100,000 will be awarded to the runner-up.

Benjamin Benmoyal, Bluemarble and Boyarovskaya (all based in Paris) have been nominated for the €100,000 Pierre Bergé Prize for young French labels; while Dolly Cohen (Paris), Ancuta Sarca (London) and 13 09 SR (Paris) have been nominated for the €50,000 Accessories Prize.

The jury’s meeting and prize ceremony will take place on 30 June, where the finalists will present their projects to a judging panel of industry heavyweights, including Kering chairman and CEO François-Henri Pinault, LVMH Group chairman and CEO Sidney Toledano, Instagram’s director of fashion partnerships Eva Chen and spectrum of CEOs from across the industry include Chloé’s Riccardo Bellini, Saint Laurent’s Francesca Bellettini and Balenciaga’s Cédric Charbit. The winners will be announced four weeks after France’s other major fashion award, the LVMH Prize (announced on 2 June).

Founded in 1989 by Nathalie Dufour and chaired by Guillaume Houzé, the Andam Fashion Awards were initially restricted to European designers living in France, but expanded to include international candidates in 2005. Candidates for the Grand Prize must own a French company or create one within a year of receiving the fellowship. The winners will show their collections in Paris and have the chance to work with French craftsmen and fashion métiers d’art. The winners receive financial advice and mentorship to structure and expand their business. Past winners include Marine Serre, Viktor & Rolf and Martin Margiela, who won the inaugural prize.

The awards are sponsored by the French Ministry of Culture and DEFI (Committee for the Promotion and Development of the French Fashion Industry) as well as private sponsors including Balenciaga, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Chloé and LVMH.

“The creativity and diversity of the young designers shortlisted by the jury promises a high-quality competition,” Chanel president Bruno Pavlovsky, a permanent member of the jury who will mentor the 2022 winner, said in a statement. “Their participation in the Andam Awards reflects the attractiveness of Paris as a world capital of fashion and of its ecosystem.”
