‘Bohot maara, dhaga khol diya’: Netizens erupt as Joe Root leads India’s score, smashes another century

England skipper Joe Root is probably in the form of his life having scored over 1350 runs in the 2021 calendar year as he smashed loads of runs earlier in the year in Sri Lanka and India and now has aggregated over 500 runs in this series and still, five innings are left.

Root seems like a warrior on top of his powers and doing what he does best day-in and day-out for fun. Root having already slammed two centuries in the series came in to bat at 159/3 with his side ahead by 80 runs, so he had the license to go for his shots from the outset as he has done throughout this series.

Root didn’t look in any discomfort and just dictated terms on the field. While the pitch has certainly got better for batting, Root has just looked like playing in a different league altogether. Whether it was pace or spin, Root with his backfoot punches especially through the covers or on the leg-side as well was making batting look easy.

England lost Malan at the stroke of Tea but Root just continued, he brought up his 23rd Test century, bringing up his eighth ton against India and third of this series.

Roots century meant England’s lead went beyond 250 as India’s suffering wasn’t ending anytime soon.

While many praised Root for his exceptional knock and form, many other fans and users on Twitter came up with hilarious memes summarising India’s day and Root’s purple patch. Here are some of the reactions:
