Bob Huggins ‘RESIGNS as West Virginia head coach’ after DUI charge

Bob Huggins has reportedly resigned as West Virginia head coach after he was arrested on a DUI charge on Friday.

According to CBS Sports, Huggins told his team on Saturday night that he will not be their coach next season.

It was reported by Stadium that staff members and coachers were in tears when Huggins delivered the news. 

The DUI incident comes a month after the Hall of Famer used a homophobic slur on a radio show. 

According to the City of Pittsburgh’s Public Safety Blotter, police ‘observed a black SUV… in the middle of the road, blocking traffic’ with the driver’s side door open and showing having a ‘flat and shredded tire’.

Officers asked Huggins to move the car off the road to help with his flat tire, but he had difficulty moving the car to get other vehicles past.

As a result, police flashed their lights and after questioning believed he was intoxicated.

Huggins failed standard field sobriety tests and was placed in custody without incident. 

He was charged with DUI and released from custody with an order to appear at a later date for a preliminary hearing.

In a statement, West Virginia University said they were, ‘aware of an incident last night involving Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bob Huggins, for which he was charged with Driving Under the Influence in the City of Pittsburgh.

‘We are gathering more information and will take appropriate action once the review is complete.’

According to a police criminal complaint as found by CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander, Huggins performed a breathalyzer test after being transported to a police department headquarters and blew a .210 ‘after multiple failed attempts’.

This complaint says that when observing his car – which was leased through WVU – Huggins’ tire ‘was shredded about 3/4ths of the way around’ and the odor of alcohol was on his breath.

Officers reportedly also found multiple cans and bottles of beer in white garbage bags in the car.

When asked how he got to Pittsburgh, Huggins reportedly said that he recalled stopping at a Burger King. After fumbling and trying to find a receipt, he produced said receipt that showed he purchased food around 1.30pm. The officers were responding to this incident at around 8.30pm.
