Blue Jays place reliever Joakim Soria on COVID-related injured list
The Toronto Blue Jays have placed right-handed reliever Joakim Soria on the COVID-related injured list. In his place, left-hander Kirby Snead has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo.
Soria was activated from the family medical emergency list on Friday. He has appeared in 10 games with the Blue Jays since being acquired at the trade deadline from the Arizona Diamondbacks, pitching a 7.88 ERA and nine strikeouts in eight innings.
Snead made his MLB debut with the Blue Jays earlier this season and has appeared in seven games out of the bullpen.
In other Blue Jays news, outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. will not play in the remaining two games this weekend against the Minnesota Twins while he recovers from an injured hand, but the team is hoping he can return to the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees.
Gurriel hurt his hand in Thursday’s series opener and needed to have stitches put in on his right middle finger. Before the injury, he was one of the hottest hitters in baseball in the month of September, hitting .364/.425/.766 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs.
