As mentioned above, the movie is a fictionalized biography of Marilyn Monroe. The story revolves around her traumatic childhood, stunning on-screen performances, exploitation and medication addiction. Due to its graphic content, the movie has been given a rating of NC – 17 (No one 17 and under admitted) by the Motion Pictures Association (MPA).

The movie is directed by Andrew Dominik who is known for movies and shows like Killing Them Softly, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and the Mindhunter series. The movie is based on a novel called Blonde (2000) written by Joyce Carol Oates.

Upon being asked about her opinions on the screenplay, Oates said in a tweet, “I have seen the rough cut of Andrew Dominick’s adaptation & it is startling, brilliant, very disturbing & [perhaps most surprisingly] an utterly “feminist” interpretation… not sure that any male director has ever achieved anything like this”.
