Blonde: Ana de Armas’ resemblance to Marilyn Monroe is uncanny in the first teaser; fans root for actress and say ‘she is going to crush it’ – Times of India

Ana de Armas is all set to take the screen as Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming film ‘Blonde’.

The movie, that is said to be a fictionalised account of Monroe’s life is adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’ novel and has been directed by Andrew Dominik, known for ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’.

The film’s official description reads: ‘Blonde’ boldly reimagines the complicated life of icon Marilyn Monroe. Blurring the lines of fact and fiction, the film artfully explores the tension between her public and private life.

In the first teaser that dropped online, Ana effortlessly recreates some of Marilyn’s iconic photos and scenes, including her famous song sequence in ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ and the actress’ iconic picture taken when her skirt flew up by the blast from a subway vent.

The clip ends with the beauty enacting one of Marilyn’s emotional moments while seated in front of her mirrors backstage.

“This is an uncanny impersonation of #MarilynMonroe from Ana de Armas,” a fan remarked.

Another added, “Marilyn Monroe & Ana De Armas uncanny resemblance in Blonde. Looking forward to watching this movie.”

Still another said, “First look at Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe in ‘Blonde’… oh my god!”

Speakng about the film, Variety quoted Ana telling Netflix, “Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start — to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens. He wanted the world to experience what it actually felt like to not only be Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane. I found that to be the most daring, unapologetic, and feminist take on her story that I had ever seen.”

For her role, Ana revealed that she read Joyce’s novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films and anything she could get her hands on.

“We wanted to tell the human side of her story. Fame is what made Marilyn the most visible person in the world, but it also made Norma the most invisible,” she added.

The film also stars Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson and Bobby Cannavale.

‘Blonde’ has been in the works since 2010, with Jessica Chastain and Naomi Watts once attached to the project.

Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux stated in an interview with Deadline that he had invited ‘Blonde’ to screen out-of-competition at the festival, but the streamer declined.

Oates’ 2001 novel was previously adapted as a television film, which saw Australian actor Poppy Montgomery play Monroe.

Michelle Williams famously played the late Hollywood star in the 2011 film ‘My Week With Marilyn’, which earned her the Golden Globe for best actress.

Two separate British series on the life of Monroe are also under development.
