BJP’s Nadda to visit Bengal amid internal rumblings, infighting & defection in party

Amid internal rumblings, infighting, and defection marring the saffron party in Bengal for the last year, BJP National President J P Nadda, will reach Bengal on Tuesday night on a two-day visit in Bengal.

Nadda will take stock of the situation at the party in Bengal during his visit. He will hold a closed-door meeting with party leaders at the National Library community hall on Wednesday to boost the party’s morale and take stock of the situation, sources told ET.

The party’s National President will also prepare the party and strengthen its organizational network during the two-day visit to Bengal with the aim of making a turnaround. The party leadership is likely to organize a meeting with the Mondal presidents in a Kolkata auditorium where Naddaji will address them on June 9, in the run-up to the Panchayat polls, a senior leader told ET. Meanwhile, several rounds of meetings are lined up with party leaders, MLAs, MPs during his two-day visit.

On June 9 morning, in a packed programme, Nadda will visit the Vandematarm Bhawan in Hooghly district’s Chinsurah. The house is the birthplace of the national song of India-Vandemataram, which was written by Bengali writer Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, known for his immense contribution to Indian literature during the country’s freedom movement.

Nadda will also visit Rashbehari Bose Research Institute in Hooghly’s Chandannagar. Rashbehari Bose was another freedom fighter known for his contribution to the freedom movement.

“We are happy that Naddaji will show us the direction to intensify our battle against the corrupt Trinamool Congress government which is tainted by one scam after another. His visit will boost the morale of the party workers and leaders in the state,” BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar said yesterday.

Nadda’s visit is significant at a time when the saffron party in Bengal is facing largescale defection, intra-party feud, and senior party leaders and MPs Arjun Singh and Babul Supriyo, switched over to Trinamool in the recent past. Party is on the backfoot after Trinamool Congress came to power with a landslide victory in 2021 May and subsequent post-poll violence and defection.
