BJP to launch mass outreach programme ‘Sahid Samman Yatra’ from August 16, 17

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch mass outreach programme “Sahid Samman Yatra” from August 16 and 17 and visit the houses of the deceased BJP cadres who were victims of post-poll violence.

The outreach programme matches the spirit of BJP’s ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ in poll-bound states like Uttar Pradesh, which will be observed by the saffron party on August 16-17 nationally. In Bengal, they will pay homage to the deceased BJP cadres who were victims of post-poll violence in Bengal. The Bengal programme will also coincide with ‘Khela Diwas’, to be celebrated by Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress on August 16.

West Bengal BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya said, “Our party will observe ‘Ashirwad Yatra’ on August 16-17 nationally and in Bengal it will be observed to pay homage to the deceased BJP cadres who died due to post-poll violence.”

“A large number of BJP workers died post-May after the poll result was announced and people were displaced due to post-poll violence for which the name is changed in Bengal. This program is to reach out to the people to ensure that they are getting the benefits of the schemes by the Central Government,” said Bhattacharya. Notably, NHRC has submitted its final report in Calcutta High Court where large-scale post-poll violence finds mention.

BJP sources said that four junior Union Ministers will take a lead role in the week-long agitation program ‘Paschim Banga Bachao’ (Save West Bengal), in an attempt to win back people’s confidence in the post-poll debacle situation.

“Nisith Pramanik, John Barla, Subhas Sarkar and Shantanu Thakur will participate in the outreach programme. The BJP MPs have been asked to cover three-four constituencies,” West Bengal BJP general secretary Sayantan Basu said.
