Karan Johar has been one of the most prolific filmmakers in the industry, having directed movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, My Name is Khan and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, amongst others.
As he completes 25 years in the industry and turns 51 today, he returns to the director’s chair with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani after a gap of 7 years, his last being Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016. Over the years, Karan has stated that he really enjoys making films with song and dance and his movies are more about escapism, as he likes being fun and fabulous.
Talking more about it in an old interview, the filmmaker had stated that he loves the music, song and dance routine in films. He also loves glamour and doesn’t apologize for it. People often come up to him and ask when he will direct a film about real issues and his reply is that he made My Name Is Khan and enjoyed every bit of it. However, for him, his cinema is escapism and he wants his audience to come and venture into that world as he doesn’t want to be serious and intense at all. He wants to be fun and fabulous.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt along with Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan. It has been written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan and Sumit Roy and will hit theatres on July 28.
