Bhoomi Trivedi opens up on her Garba song ‘Garbe Ki Raat’ controversy: Religious folk songs should not be insulted – Times of India

Bhoomi Trivedi’s latest release ‘Garbe Ki Raat’ has created quite a stir, especially among the Gujarati audiences. Featuring Rahul Vaidya and Nia Sharma in the lead, the song video is directed and choreographed by Rahul Shetty. Amidst the Hindi lyrics, a portion from a Gujarati Folk ‘Ramva Aavo Madi’ has been added in the song, which has not gone down well with the Gujarati audience.

Nia’s entry in the song with having the Gujrati folk lyrics sung in the background has disturbed the devotees around the corner. People have expressed their concerns and disappointments through various social media platforms. They claim to be deeply hurt by the objectionable video representation of the lead actress on the religious folk wordings addressing the goddesses.

When ETimes approached singer Bhoomi, who has crooned for the song to learn more about the controversy, here’s what she has to say.

“I would like to address to the whole community regarding this release. As a singer, I completed my audio recording of the song and got back to my life and other works. I have nothing to do with the video. As soon as I saw the video representation of the folk part, I immediately pulled down all the promotional videos from my social media. You won’t find anything posted about this song on my social media now. I myself condemn such representation. I am well aware of and respect the dignity and essence of the songs we cherish in Gujarat,” expresses Bhoomi in an exclusive chat with ETimes.

“Religious folk songs should not be insulted whatsoever the reason or situation is. I support and stand strong with my community and my people. I shall soon release an official public statement regarding this. Once again, I would emphasize that I do not and would never support or promote such representation ever. As it is famously said in Gujarat (
Puja Karta Na Aavde To Na Karo Pan Khotu Karvu Nai), Bhoomi adds to the conversation and signs off.
