Beyoncé Now Follows One Person On Instagram
Jay Z is winning at life, and he may just have won Instagram, too: his is the first account that Queen Bey has followed since joining the platform in 2012. And, in return, he only follows her. Could there be a more potent symbol of devoted love in the modern age?
After creating his page on November 2—and immediately attracting 1.5 million followers—Jay’s first post was a promotional image for The Harder They Fall, the Jeymes Samuel-directed Western that the rapper and mogul produced. (He also oversaw its blazing soundtrack, which features artists from Lauryn Hill to Kid Cudi.) Jay’s first Instagram story was a countdown until The Harder They Fall’s premiere on Netflix on November 3, which was reposted by Beyoncé.
The film stars Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, Idris Elba, and Regina King in a Western tale of vengeance, one that arises from a factual, but buried history—one in four cowboys were Black. As costume designer Antoinette Messam told British Vogue, “There’s been a resurgence of a truth or history being known… I grew up watching Westerns, I love Westerns, but we didn’t see ourselves; learning about all these Black cowboys who existed was pretty incredible.”
Feeding into the Yeehaw Agenda, Messam pulled together a bevy of covetable looks for Samuel’s cast—with Balmain releasing a fringe-heavy capsule inspired by the Western on November 3. How long until Beyoncé is modeling Olivier Rousteing’s latest creations? Start another Instagram countdown, Jay.
