Bettor cashes out on massive Fairleigh Dickinson bet vs. Purdue
Before Friday night, only one No. 16 seed has dethroned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but Fairleigh Dickinson became the second school in history to do it after defeating No. 1 seed Purdue 63-58 in the Round of 64.
One bettor placed a live wager of $33,000 on the No. 16 seed a little more than an hour after tip off at +1500 and cashed in on the historic outcome. Fairleigh Dickinson, who led by one at halftime and erased a six point second half deficit, shocked the college basketball world on the second day of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
The Knights, who defeated Texas Southern in the First Four on Wednesday, pulled what is the biggest outright upset in NCAA Tournament history on Friday against the Boilermakers after closing as 23.5-point underdogs.
Matt Painter’s team was led by 7’4″ big man, and overwhelming favorite to win the Wooden Award, Zach Edey, but couldn’t handle FDU’s intense ball pressure. The Knights are shortest team in terms of average height in all of Divisoin-1 this season, but were able to withstand 21 points and 15 rebounds from the big man en route to the victory.
FDU now faces No. 9 seed Florida Atlantic in the Round of 32 on Sunday, and are once again a double digit underdog of 13 points. Does Tobin Anderson’s group have one more surprise for the college basketball world?
