Besiktas have released a statement refuting claims Wout Weghorst’s loan deal from Burnley can be terminated if Manchester United pay £2million in compensation.
Weghorst has enjoyed a stellar season so far at Besiktas, scoring nine goals in 18 appearances for the Turkish side and has been linked with a January move to United.
However, Besiktas have said that reports stating there is an early exit clause in the striker’s contract are ‘fictitious’ and reiterated the fact he ‘belonged entirely’ to them.

Besiktas described such claims as ‘speculative’ and said the public would be ‘informed’ if there was any real developments.
The Istanbul-based outfit released the following statement: ‘After the match of our Football A Team against Kasimpasa in the Super League, there was a need to make a statement due to speculative news in the media about our football player Wout Weghorst.
‘The claim that there is an exit clause in our football player’s contract, stating that his contract can be terminated with a compensation of 2.5 million Euros in case of an offer from the Premier League, is fictitious.
The Manchester United boss wants to strengthen his attacking line during the current window
‘However, the news that the player in question will leave the team on Tuesday is completely untrue. The initiative regarding Wout Weghorst belongs entirely to Besiktas Gymnastics Club.’
The club went on to add: ‘We also state that if there is a development on this issue, our esteemed community and the public will be informed.’
Weghorst has scored nine goals in 18 games for the Turkish side. His last goal came on Saturday and he appeared to celebrate by waving goodbye to the club’s fans.
The 30-year-old is keen for a second crack at the Premier League after scoring only twice in 20 games following his move to Turf Moor in January 2022.
Manchester United could be the club that offer Weghorst a second change in the English-top flight.
Manager Erik ten Hag is eager to strengthen his attacking line during the January transfer window and has earmarked Weghorst as a target.
However, the Red Devils are only interested in signing the 30-year-old on loan until the end of the 2022-2023 campaign.

United need to replace Cristiano Ronaldo (middle) and add depth to their attacking line
United need to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and add depth to their attacking line for the remainder of the season.
Ronaldo’s position at the club became untenable after he criticised the club, the Glazers, manager Erik ten Hag and his team-mates in a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.
United want to deal with the situation quickly. They agreed to terminate the 37-year-old’s contract and released a statement which read: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.
‘The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.
‘Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.’
