Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway: Netizens react after NHAI hikes toll charges by 22%
National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the toll charges on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway by 22 percent. The increase in toll charges has come into effect from June 1 and are applicable for cars, buses and trucks.
NHAI had tried to raise the toll prices on April 1 as well but had to take back the new charges after an uproar from the commuters.
The toll charges for a single journey from cars/Jeep/ Vans has been raised from ₹135 to 165 while the fee for the return journey has been raised from ₹205 to ₹250.
Similarly, the toll charges for a single journey for buses and trucks has been raised from ₹460 to ₹565 and for return journey have been raised from ₹ ₹690 to ₹850. Reports suggest that the toll prices could further plummet after the second stretch of the Bengaluru- Mysuru Expressway is opened.
The 118 km stretch of the Bengaluru- Mysore Expressway was built at a cost of ₹8,408 crore and inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on March 12. The expressway reduced the time between Bengaluru and Mysore from 3.5 hours to around 1.5 hours.
Users who were angry by NHAI quietly raising the toll prices took to Twitter to vent out their frustration. One Twitter user Naveen B P wrote, “Scam at the toll in Bangalore Mysore Expressway. Yesterday, i came from Mandya to Bangalore, at the Seshagiri toll near Ramanagara. I was told my fastag is “blacklisted” as there is no balance and it will take about 10min to reacharge.. Not possible due to traffic”
Another user Prasanna BN asked “Why Bangalore Mysore Expressway toll is hiked within a span of a quarter! How it is possible?”
