Ben Foster ranks his top 10 midfielders in the history of the Premier League… with fans outraged at the position of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard

Ben Foster has drawn the ire of several fanbases after placing Paul Scholes atop his list of the greatest Premier League midfielders. 

The Wrexham stopper chimed in to the contentious debate on his TikTok channel benfcyclinggk, and ranked his former Man United team mate ahead of Kevin De Bruyne and Frank Lampard, who rounded out the top three. 

Arguably Foster’s most controversial call was his decision to rank ex-Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard fourth. A move which drew immediate attention from supporters. 

‘Steven Gerrard 4th is crazy,’ wrote one observer on the platform. ‘Steve 4th hahaha have a day off,’ wrote another. 

While a third said: ‘Gerrard is 1 or 2.’ Martynb27 delivered a more complete evaluation, writing: ‘Gerrard had it all, he was Scholes Lampard & Keane with a little dash of Viera. Easily #1.’

Fans were quick to pull Foster up on his choice of placement for Gerrard among league greats

Foster himself conceded that there may be some mistakes in his order and reckoned he was not ‘a million miles off’ from getting the rankings right. 

‘Some of the order is wrong,’ his co-host and former Soccer AM star Peter Dale interjected. ‘But we’re not a million miles off.’

Further down the list, the 40-year-old keeper had David Silva behind Ryan Giggs and his former Man City colleague Yaya Toure. 

 Gareth Bale was nominated in seventh place while Roy Keane came in ahead of his old rival Patrick Vieira, who ranked fifth and sixth respectively.
