‘Bell Bottom’ first weekend box office: Akshay Kumar’s spy thriller collects Rs 15 crore – Times of India

Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Bell Bottom’ has clocked a decent figure at the box office at the end of its first weekend. The movie hit the screens on August 19 and at the end of its four day first weekend the movie has made around Rs 15 crore gross in India. The spy thriller earned Rs 6 crore in at the overseas box office. The overseas number could have been better but it lost out on business in Kuwait and Saudia Arabia as it was banned there. Moreover, ‘Bell Bottom’ released late in UAE and missed out on business in Australia and New Zealand. According to Boxofficeindia.com the film did not earn well in the overseas markets as compared to Akshay Kumar films before the pandemic.

‘Bell Bottom’ is directed by Ranjit Tewari and features Akshay Kumar in the lead role of a spy. Commenting on the risk of releasing ‘Bell Bottom’ amid several restrictions in India, Akshay had told PTI, “The pressure is there on everybody but I’m very sure that things are going to work out. There’s a challenge, a risk. But if you haven’t taken the risk in life, then what have you done? So we have gone with it. In this journey, I have my producers who have also taken the risk and that’s how we have proceeded.” While speaking about theatres being shut in Maharashtra, Akshay had added, “It is a gamble and someone had to take this gamble. We have taken this leap and I’m confident that this is going to work.”

‘Bell Bottom’ also features Lara Dutta, Vaani Kapoor and Huma Qureshi in pivotal roles and was the first Bollywood film to be shot completely during the lockdown. The film was previously scheduled for release in April but was postponed owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
