South African star Quinton de Kock’s controversial withdrawal appears set to cost him a big pay day although Australia could bail him out.
De Kock pulled out of the Proteas’ Tuesday night clash against the West Indies at the last minute after the country’s cricketing body instructed players to kneel before the match – the now globally-recognised stance against racial injustice pioneered by the Black Lives Matter movement.

The South Africa wicketkeeper might never represent his nation on the international stage again, according to multiple reports, and is unlikely to take part in the remainder of the tournament following his bombshell move.
Now The Daily Telegraph reports that at least one BBL club has already reached out to the player’s management over bringing him to Australia’s top T20 domestic tournament.
The report also states that his IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians, could axe the 28-year-old from his big-money contract worth over $500,000 – leaving the Big Bash in prime position to secure his services.
Cricket Victoria boss Nick Cummins told News Corp taking a knee should not be forced upon players, and revealed his interest in bringing de Kock down under.
“We encourage our players to think about the issues and express their views as they see appropriate,” Cummins told News Corp.
“We would certainly be interested in a player of his calibre to come to the BBL. It would be great for the competition.”
Superstar Aussie opener David Warner was asked about that possibility in a media call today from the Australian camp in the UAE.
“That’s fast. Is that predicting he will leave South Africa?” Warner replied.
“Obviously that would be great for the Big Bash. If the opportunity was there for him I’m sure he might take that.
“There’s obviously a lot of other leagues around the world that other South African players are participating in. It would be good for any international player to come down to Australia and participate.”
