Bayern Munich ask for cash up front in full from Barcelona for Robert Lewandowski
Bayern Munich ‘ask for all the money up front in cash’ before selling Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona… amid fears over the Catalan giants’ ability to pay his £43m asking price in instalments
- Barcelona have made Robert Lewandowski a key summer transfer target
- Bayern Munich have set a £43m asking price for the wantaway striker
- They also want to be paid in full in cash by Barcelona for Lewandowski
- They want this as they feel Barcelona will struggle to pay in instalments
Bayern Munich have reportedly asked Barcelona to pay them up front in cash in order to sign Robert Lewandowski this summer.
The Catalan giants have been heavily linked with a move for the Polish striker ever since he expressed his desire to leave Bayern at the end of last season.
However, the German side are standing their ground at the moment, refusing to budge from their £43m asking price, and they now want to be paid in full straight away for Lewandowski, as they have concerns about Barcelona’s ability to pay the fee in instalments.

Bayern want Barcelona to pay in cash for Lewandowski as they are worried that the Catalan giants may go bust in the next couple of years
‘Apparently Bayern Munich have told FC Barcelona they don’t want any instalments in any deal for Robert Lewandowski and that they want all the money up front in cash,’ The Athletic’s Raphael Honigstein told The Totally Football Show with James Richardson.
Honigstein explained Bayern’s stance by joking: ‘Bayern might not be sure that FC Barcelona will still be around in one or two years’ time!’
Bayern’s worries are understandable considering Barcelona’s economic vice president Eduard Romeu claimed last month that the Spanish side needed to raise £428m to save themselves from financial ruin.
The club also had to allow Lionel Messi to leave last summer as they were no longer able to afford his lucrative wages.
Barcelona have since struck a £178m deal to sell off 10% of their TV rights for the next 25 years, which has allowed them to register Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen as new signings.
Barcelona have managed to register two players in recent days, including Franck Kessie
However, this agreement has not led to Xavi being given the all-clear to spend freely in the current transfer window.
Nevertheless, this has not stopped Barcelona pursuing Lewandowski, and they had a £34m offer for the striker rejected in June.
Lewandowski has made it clear that he is keen on moving to the Nou Camp, and has previously stated that he cannot see himself playing for Bayern again.
He is yet to return to training after finishing last season late due to his international commitments, and his former agent Maik Barthel thinks the 33-year-old may go on strike to force through a transfer. Whether he takes this drastic action remains to be seen.
An agreement could now depend on Barcelona’s approach, and whether they are willing to bow down to Bayern’s demands to pay up front in cash to finally land Lewandowski.
