‘Barbie’: Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling give us a peek inside Barbie Land with hilarious new teaser – Times of India

Margot Robbie brings our favourite doll – Barbie to life in the teaser trailer of Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated film ‘Barbie’.
The Oscar-nominated actress leads a star-studded cast that includes Ryan Gosling as Barbie’s boyfriend, Ken. But, there’s a catch, they aren’t the only Barbie and Ken dolls in Barbie Land.

The new clip gives us glimpses of the many versions of Barbies including Issa Rae as President Barbie, Kate McKinnon as Gymnast Barbie, Nicola Coughlan as Diplomat Barbie, Alexandra Shipp as Writer Barbie, Ritu Arya as Journalist Barbie, Hari Nef as Doctor Barbie, Emma Mackey as physicist Barbie, Dua Lipa as mermaid Barbie, Ana Cruz Kayne as judge Barbie, and Sharon Rooney as lawyer Barbie.

The film also stars Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Scott Evans as different versions of Ken.

“To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken,” read the synopsis.

Prior to the trailer launch, Warner Bros unveiled a series of character posters announcing that the film will release in theatres on July 21. The poster also introduced the human characters from the film including America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Will Ferrell, and Connor Swindells.

Barbie, written and directed by Greta Gerwig, is the first major film production during Mattel’s current corporate era under CEO Ynon Kreiz. On a podcast last month, Gerwig confessed to being daunted by taking on the project.

According to Deadline, “It was terrifying. I think there’s something about starting from that place where it’s like, ‘Well, anything is possible,'” Gerwig told singer-songwriter Dua Lipa in an episode of her podcast At Your Service. “It felt like vertigo starting to write it. Like, where do you even begin? What would be the story?”

Gerwig added that she took the film on given the sense that the “terror” it was bringing upon her was of the “really interesting” variety — that the film would challenge her in ways that would be productive.
