Bangladesh scored an emphatic win against England in their first T20 international match played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium at Chattogram. The host team displayed a sparkling performance in all aspects of the game to gain an edge in the three-match T20 series against England.
Bangladesh put England to bat after winning the toss. The opening pair of Philip Salt and Jos Butler gave a solid start to the England team with a 80 run stand before Nasum Ahmed dismissed Salt at 38. The second wicket of Dawid Malan fell quickly thereafter but Captain Butler stabilised the team before being dismissed by Hasan Mahumd for 67 off 42 balls. Helped by some alert fielding, the England team was restricted to 156-6 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the England score, Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a quickfire 51 off 30 balls striking four consecutive fours in the seventh over against the bowling of Mark Wood.
Left handed Towhid Hridoy provided excellent support to Najmul with good running between the wickets and scoring a respectable 24 off 17 balls. After the quick dismissal of Hridoy and Najmul, Captain Shakib Al Hasan led Bangladesh to victory with a boundary in the final ball of the 18th over. He remained unbeaten at 34 off 24. Bangladesh crossed the England score with 6 wickets to spare.
