Back to basics! France team pose for a squad picture wearing jerseys of their first amateur club… as Les Bleus’ stars pay homage to the youth teams that helped forge their illustrious careers

France’s national side have paid homage to the amateur teams that helped forge their football careers in a hilarious squad picture.

The Les Bleus squad posed for a team photo at their training camp in Doha but, instead of wearing their training kit, they donned shirts from the club they each started their careers at.

There were some interesting points to be made upon seeing the picture, such as the connection between Kylian Mbappe and William Saliba or the omission of midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

PSG sensation Mbappe and Arsenal’s in-form defender Saliba both wore the AS Bondy kit – a team located in the northeastern suburbs of Paris.

Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga wore the kit of Drapeau-Fougères, while his club team-mate Aurelien Tchouameni donned the shirt of SJ D’Artigues.

National team captain Hugo Lloris wore Cedac Cimiez’s top – a side located in the southeast of France.

Antoine Griezmann appeared in a UF Mâconnais kit. Interestingly, his father Alain is the club’s president.

Marseille’s Guendouzi was the only player in the squad to not take part, presumably because he started his career at one of the club’s biggest rivals; PSG.

The full list of players and the tops that they wore can be seen in the graphic below.

The French side looked relaxed and at ease ahead of their round of 16 tie against Poland on Sunday.

Les Bleus booked their place in the knockout rounds of the World Cup after finishing top of Group D – fending off Australia, Denmark and Tunisia.

They’ll be looking to defend their World Cup title out in Qatar – having lifted the trophy at the previous competition in 2018.
