‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ early box office estimates Day 4: James Cameron’s directorial to see a big drop on first Monday – Times of India

James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ was off to a big start at the Indian box office, smashing past the Rs 100 crore mark in just its first weekend. However, going by the early box office reports, the film has seen a steep decline in ticket sales on its first Monday.

According to various box office reports, ‘Avatar 2’ will witness a big drop in numbers, which is not unusual for a film that has been raking in over Rs 40 crore consistently over its debut weekend. The film earned an estimated Rs 127 crore nett in three days. Reports state that the decline in ticket sales on Monday, lead to the film collecting around Rs 12-15 crore. With this, the film’s overall total is expected to rise to around Rs 140 crore.

Of the double-digit collections for day 4, it seems that the film made almost Rs 5.7 crore from advance ticket sales.

The film has been receiving mixed reviews from critics and the audience alike. Starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet, the sequel follows Jake Sully and Neytiri as they face an ancient threat that forces them to fight against humans.

On the international front, the film opened to far lesser numbers than expected. While trade experts predicted that the film would open to collections surpassing the USD 500 million mark, the movie earned a little over $434 million on its debut weekend. According to reports the film that is one of the most expensive films ever made, is hoping to cross the $2 Billion mark at the box office.

Despite the underwhelming performance at the box office, James took to his Twitter handle to send out a note of thanks to all the fans who flocked to the theatres in large numbers to catch the film. “It is incredibly gratifying that already so many of you have watched the film on the big screen,” he said and signed off with a Navi greeting.
