Avalanche’s MacKinnon ruled out for remainder of game vs. Flyers
Colorado Avalanche captain Nathan MacKinnon has been ruled out for the remainder of Monday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers with an upper-body injury.
After leaving in the first period, he did not return for the second and following the star forward’s evaluation by team medical staff, the team announced prior to the third that MacKinnon would not return.

The Avalanche have been dealing with various injury problems this season and the loss of MacKinnon would be yet another major hit to their roster.
Against the Flyers, the team were also without forwards Artturi Lehkonen and Jean-Luc Foudy, who are both considered day-to-day.
More long-term Avalanche absences include forwards Valeri Nichushkin, Evan Rodrigues and Shane Bowers, along with defensemen Josh Manson, Bowen Byram and Kurtis MacDermid.
Forwards Gabriel Landeskog and Darren Helm both had offseason surgery and have yet to play this season.
While it’s not clear exactly how MacKinnon was hurt in the game, he took several hard hits from Flyers defenseman Scott Laughton during the first and appeared in discomfort while taking a wrist shot from the point. He left the game shortly afterwards.
After signing a blockbuster eight-year, $100.8 million contract in the summer, MacKinnon, as expected, is off to a strong start this season with 33 points in 22 games.
