Authors Sudha Murty, S.L. Bhyrappa, Kamlesh D Patel among others conferred Padma Bhushan 2023 – Times of India

On the occasion of the 74th Republic Day of India, the Centre released a list of 106 people who will receive the coveted Padma Awards 2023. The awards include, Padma Vibhushan conferred to six people for their exceptional and distinguished service; Padma Bhushan to nine people for their distinguished service of a high order; and the Padma Shri to 91 people for their distinguished service in any field. The Padma Awards are the highest civilian honours, after the Bharat Ratna, given in the country. Every year, the awards are announced on the occasion of the Republic Day of India and they are given in different fields like: arts, literature and education, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, sports, etc.

This year, author-philanthropist Sudha Murty, novelist-philosopher-screenwriter S.L. Bhyrappa from Karnataka, and spiritual leader-author Kamlesh D Patel (also known as Daaji) are among the nine people who are named for the Padma Bhushan 2023 awards. IANS reports Bhyrappa’s “novels are unique in terms of theme, structure, and characterisation. Bhyrappa has been among the top-selling authors in the Kannada language and his books, translated into Hindi and Marathi, which have notched good sales.” Kapil Kapoor, an Indian scholar of linguistics and literature and an authority on Indian intellectual traditions, is also included in this list as per IANS.
