Pop star turned pro swimmer Cody Simpson has posted a strangely worded message to fans after missing out on a ticket to the World Swimming Championships in Japan next month.

Simpson competed in the Men’s 100m Butterfly final on day six of the 2023 Australian Swimming Trials at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Unfortunately, the 26-year-old placed fifth, behind Matthew Temple, Shaun Champion, Jesse Coleman and his ‘love rival’ Kyle Chalmers.

Simpson addressed the setback through an Instagram message to his followers on Wednesday evening.

‘Eyes ahead. This experiment I’ve undertaken in the pool wouldn’t be without its mountains and valleys,’ he explained.

‘A week of racing at our 2023 Australian Trials brought some personal best times, but I’ve yet to craft the swims that I’ve been developing in the dojo.

‘Those are still to arise. I feel very glad to be on the path I’m on, throwing myself into the ring in one of the more beautifully brutal sports there is.

‘Like the stonemason, we keep swinging at the boulder until it cracks! Thank you to my friends, family, and sponsors for your loving kindness.’

On his Instagram stories, Simpson also posted: ‘I learn so much about myself in this sport that I can take forward and apply to my creative pursuits beyond swimming.

‘I absolutely love it and for that, I’m grateful.

‘I also learn the power of patience, persistence, and perseverance.

‘To everyone out there, in whatever you do, be dogged! See you soon.’

Cody and his Olympian girlfriend Emma McKeon recently celebrated their one-year anniversary by buying their first home together.

The pair went ‘Instagram official’ with their relationship in July last year, three months after they began dating in secret.

Days after going public, the pair found themselves embroiled in a reported ‘love triangle’ with Emma’s ex-boyfriend and fellow Team Australia member Kyle Chalmers.

At the time it was claimed Kyle had blocked Cody’s entry into the ranks of the Australian Dolphins for the World Championships in Hungary after learning of their relationship.

Kyle had originally made the decision to not travel to Hungary for the competition, but back-flipped after his ex’s relationship with Cody became public.

However, he vehemently denied any suggestion this move was due to a personal vendetta against the former pop star.

Cody later got a ‘one up’ on Kyle when he was named on the ten-man shortlist for the GQ Sportsman of the Year award, while Kyle missed out.

The musician and swimmer is hopeful of appearing at the Olympics in Paris next year, but his recent results are a huge setback.
