Australia’s unheralded mullet in golf is teeing up for a piece of a $39million prize – as rising star Jediah Morgan makes his way in the rebel LIV golf league at Bangkok.

Morgan sits tied 11th at the Bangkok Invitational after round two, going into the final day with mind-blowing coin playing at the back of his mind.

The Queenslander is eight shots off Spaniard Eugenio Chacarra, who turned pro four months ago and is yet to taste podium success.

The 22-year-old says if his putts drop and driver stays straight, he can go deep into the tournament standings and take away some serious winnings.

‘The money’s massive, obviously. It’s a difficult thing not to think about – especially when you’ve never played for that amount,’ Morgan said after his round two three-under.

‘Because I’m here for the golf. I’m lucky to be on this tour at the moment. So I don’t care about the money. It really doesn’t drive me.

You’ve just got to get the putts going. Then anything is possible. You can try to go nasty low!’

If Morgan is to retain his position or rise up the standings, he is guaranteed a mega US$540,000, which converts to AUD$850,000.

Finishing 11th would earn him nearly five times his Australian PGA prize, where he won $180,000 for his top gong victory at his home Royal Queensland this January.

Morgan’s 11-shot PGA victory smashed the record of golfing legend Greg Norman, who logged an eight-shot win decades before.

He then made his PGA debut, playing in both the US Open and British Open majors – falling short of the cut.

Bangkok’s picturesque Stonehill Golf Club features wide fairways and long holes, but is open enough to make small errors off the tee.

Fellow Australian Marc Leishmann has taken advantage of the course, sitting nine-under and tied eighth.

The beauty for players in LIV is through the three-day tournament, no golfer is cut and is ensured a chunk of the massive purse.

The player who finishes dead last in the 48-man field will take home US$120,000.

Morgan has featured in all six LIV events which started in June at London, where he has finished last in two tournaments and battled to a league-best 26th.

The average PGA tour player earns US$1.48million per year.

Pending the position of Australia’s no.2 mullet in golf on day three at Bangkok, Morgan may eclipse this statistic and could rise into yearly earnings beyond $2million.
