- Atalanta vs Villarreal will decide which of the sides will progress to the last 16
- The Italians were set to host Villarreal on Tuesday evening, with kick-off at 8pm
- But heavy snow in northern Italy means the game will now happen on Thursday
Atalanta’s crunch Champions League tie against Villarreal set for Wednesday evening has been called off at the last minute due to heavy snow.
The tricky conditions in northern Italy mean the decisive Group F tie – which will determine who progresses to the last 16 round behind group winners Manchester United – will now be played on Thursday at 15.30pm.
Kick-off on Wednesday was temporarily postponed from 8pm to 8.20pm but eventually continuing snow meant English referee Anthony Taylor, along with the two captains, called the game off until the next day.

Players were ready pitchside in their kits but the snow kept falling, meaning it was postponed
Groundstaff had done everything they could to get the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia pitch ready, painting the touchlines red to increase their visibility, and play was initially delayed as snow was cleared.
Players were ready, pitchside, in their kits, but the snow kept falling, persuading the English officials to make their decision.
The two sides are competing for the runners-up spot with United having already sealed top spot ahead of the last round of fixtures.
