Astros sign first baseman Jose Abreu ‘to a three year deal worth about $20 million per year’ as Houston looks to repeat as World Series champions
First-baseman Jose Abreu will be moving to Houston after agreeing to a deal with the Astros.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the former Chicago White Sox slugger will be signing with the reigning World Series champions on a three year deal.
The Houston Chronicle’s Chandler Rome says the deal with the 35-year old Abreu will be worth around $60 million – carrying an average annual value of $20m per year.
Exact details, term, and financials have not been officially confirmed by the team.
This move signifies an end to the Astros career of 38-year old Yuli Gurriel – who was a rival of Abreu’s back when they both played in their native Cuba.
