In Bangkok, the Indian 4X400 m mixed relay team bagged the gold medal yesterday at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023. The relay team of Rajesh Ramesh, Aishwarya Mishra, Amoj Jacob and Subha Venkatesan broke the National Record and made new record of 3 minutes 14.70 seconds.
The old mark was 3 minutes 15.71 seconds set at the 2018 Asian Games. In the high jump, India’s Sarvesh A Kushare won silver as he cleared the bar at 2.26 metre.
In the women’s heptathlon event, Swapna Barman clinched silver with 5840 points while Ekaterina Voronina from Uzbekistan won gold with 6098 points.
In the long jump event, Murali Sreeshankar bagged silver and secured a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic games.
In Bangkok today, Priyanka Goswami won silver in the 20 kilometre race walk in the women’s event. Priyanka finished second with a time of 1 hour 34 minutes and 24 seconds behind China’s Yang Liujing.
Though she won a medal, her timing was quite far off her personal best of 1 hour 28 minutes 45 seconds. On the other hand, Vikash won bronze in the men’s 20 kilometre race walk with a timing of 1 hour 29 minutes 32 seconds behind Yutaro Murayama of Japan and Wang Kaihua of China.
The five-day event started on the 12th of July and will conclude today in Bangkok. In Medal’s tally, India stands third with 14 medals behind Japan and China. So far, India have won six gold, four silver and four bronze.
